GE262I love my neighborhood.  Any direction I choose to walk, there is foodie goodness of varying proportions.  But since Ginger Elizabeth Chocolates moved into the Midtown grid (1801 L Street), life has gotten even sweeter when I need to indulge.

GE212You know as soon as you enter the door, this is what a chocolaterie is all about.  Ginger Hahn is a formally trained American Chocolatier.  These are some special chocolates!  I literally lose my mind every time I go there.  You will soon understand why.

GE201If there is a line, it is worth the wait.  Because you have entered, in essence, an art gallery that consists of an array of delectable goodies, that when consumed, will paint a picture in your mouth!  So take your time, take it all in.  And then it is time to step up and choose.  My current favorites:  Olmec Spice, Orange Jasmine, Chewy Lavender Caramel, and Meyer Lemon.  But they are all incredible – I say get one of each!  Did I mention Ginger makes her own peanut butter?  Everything is made from scratch – there are no extracts used – and you can tell in every bite, there is handcrafted love all up in there!

GE219Don’t miss all of the other treats Ginger Elizabeth offers – from a Gianduja Cake (chocolate mousse with a chocolate biscuit and a crunchy hazelnut bottom) to the Parisian Macron’s – do not forget to try one of these.  I often daydream about them during boring conference calls at work – the salty caramel rocks!  No joke.

And then there is the hot chocolate.  Trust me here.

GE238Forget about indulgent moments, if you need a little sweet savory art in your everyday life, Ginger Elizabeth Chocolates is just the place.  I promise you will be transported to a new reality – and isn’t that the goal of every artisan?
