Rosenblum Cellars Chateau La Paws, Cote du Bone Rhone is a Red Table Wine blended from grapes traditionally used to create French Rhone style red wines (Syrah, Zinfandel, Mourvedre and Carignane).
Ok, so I will confess that I did decide to purchase this because I love dogs, and not only does the label contain doggy references but also explains that they use some of the proceeds for dog rescue. BUT, I wouldn't have purchased it if I didn't enjoy Rhone blends. I truly believe blends give the vintner a chance to be creative and seek true perfection in a wine. Imagine a chef trying to create a dish from one ingredient! No matter what you have heard from your friendly neighborhood wine snob, meritages or blends are a great option and are often a bit less pricey!
This wine has a floral nose with some ripe fruit and spice. It fills your mouth with cherry and a bit of smoke and has a lingering, not overly dry or tannic finish, but it has the depth it needs to create a satisfying end. It would be great with a semi-hearty meal, something with a full flavor profile like pesto, pizza, roasted pork and I think even with a big bacon cheeseburger. At $12.99, (from Bevmo) it's not what I would consider cheap, but it's not going to kill your budget and will leave you and your guests satisfied. Plus, there is the whole dog thing.
Cheers!
